WHAT'S HAPPENING IN AND AROUND COOKRIDGE AND HORSFORTH

The 9 night group cruise with Fred Olsen to Norway in June 2027 is still available for Cookridge and Horsforth u3a members to book.  So far 27 people have booked and there are still cabins on most decks for people who are able to share.  However, single occupancy cabins are now very limited and all prices are rising slightly due to popular demand for this cruise as it docks six different places and sails along three fjords.

Fred Olsen's Bollette is a small traditional cruise ship, with 1,300 passengers and 630 crew.  We only require three more members to book in order to have free coach transport to and from Newcastle.  

Please remember you cannot book this online.  You need a special telephone number and group code which is obtained by contacting me directly.  Deposit 15% and the balance is due 17th March 2027.

The following email has been received about a new choir

I’m reaching out as we’ve just started a new community choir in Horsforth - we meet on Wednesdays, 7pm @ Lister Hall Baptist Church. Many of our members in our other choir are in the U3A, so I thought it might be worth reaching out to your members to see if they’d like to come along and try our choir for free?

There’s no auditions and no reading music - just a feel-good singing session, inclusive to all. More than welcome to attend next Wednesday!

We are academics at Leeds Beckett University seeking to develop a member hub for members of the public to work with researchers. At the university it is important for us to include the lived experiences and voices of the public in our work; we have included members of the public in lots of our work so far and would like to continue this. We thought that some of your members may be interested to come along to the event to learn more. 

We are delighted to invite you to the launch event for ACTLIFE Connect, our hub for members of the public and researchers to work together. The launch event will take place on Monday 18^th May from 17.00 at Leeds Beckett University, Headingley Campus, in the Carnegie School of Sport building.

The event will include an introduction to ACTLIFE Connect, why Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) is important, what PPIE involves, examples of our PPIE work and how this has shaped our work at Leeds Beckett University.  

We will have some stands with information about eating well, moving well and health behaviour changes, alongside the opportunity for you to tell us what is important to you based upon your lived experiences.  There will be networking opportunities, and refreshments (drinks and light bites) will be provided.
