The Lisbon Maru was a Japanese hell ship in WW2. It was torpedoed and sank off the east China coast. .His father was on that ship and survived.
Paul is a member and shares this presentation about his invitation from the Chinese Embassy to attend the dedication of a monument to the fishermen who saved his father amongst others lives.

After the tour of the rooms, there will be homemade vegetable soup, sandwiches and a hot drink for lunch.
After lunch we leave Leighton Hall for a visit to Barton Grange Garden Centre, where you will be able to revel in the Christmas spirit. You'll be able to fulfil all your Christmas gift or decorative needs from their wide range of Christmas products.
Awarded Garden Centre of Excellence 2026, Barton Grange has everything you need to bring your home and garden to life. There are spectacular festive displays and a large Lemax village collection.

We all know Robert and his amazing, factual amusing tales on the history of…….Pies, pub signs, crisps. Now come and listen to his talk on puddings. Who knows you might even get to win a free pudding! A light-hearted Power Point presentation on the history of puddings through the ages. During the talk various puddings will be raffled off to the audience.

A lovely extended morning for the last one of 2026. We will have mixed entertainment including music, a quiz , a chance to share ideas for future trips, events and what you’d like going forward including your chance to be more involved. Lots of socialising and a lovely lunch provided by our very own Jenny and Connie.

Nick is an many times RHS gold winner garden designer and spoke person for the The Japanese Garden Society. He will educate us on the many aspects of Japanese Gardens.
A presentation of the history of the first moving films and the importance Leeds played in this role with a rare chance to see the short film shot at Roundhay mansion as its at The Leeds Industrial Museum. Alex is the very knowledgable and passionate curator at the museum.
