Margaret Bending
Margaret will come and share her passion and journey of becoming a rocket scientist. From an 8 year child fascinated by space, coming face to face with Yuri Gagarin the first human in space on his return in 1961. Her many years and work resulting in her scientific research that went into space.
Paul Hanson
The Lisbon Maru was a Japanese hell ship in WW2. It was torpedoed and sank off the east China coast. .His father was on that ship and survived.
Paul is a member and shares this presentation about his invitation from the Chinese Embassy to attend the dedication of a monument to the fishermen who saved his father amongst others lives.
Delightful Leighton Hall, home of the Gillow family, dressed for Christmas.
An intimate tour of historic Leighton Hall, which has been a much loved family home and the centre of an agricultural estate since mediaeval times. Come and discover the history of the hall and how it has changed in appearance and size over almost 800 years.
Enjoy the famous collection of Gillow furniture and objets d’art, the gardens and woodland walk decorated for Christmas. The family lives here all the year round and look forward to sharing it with you.
On arrival, we will be welcomed with a mince pie or biscuit and hot drink.
After the tour of the rooms, there will be homemade vegetable soup, sandwiches and a hot drink for lunch.
After lunch we leave Leighton Hall for a visit to Barton Grange Garden Centre, where you will be able to revel in the Christmas spirit. You'll be able to fulfil all your Christmas gift or decorative needs from their wide range of Christmas products.
Awarded Garden Centre of Excellence 2026, Barton Grange has everything you need to bring your home and garden to life. There are spectacular festive displays and a large Lemax village collection.
